Solar Pool Heating

A warmer pool, heated by the sun

Roof-mounted collectors use your existing pool pump to warm the water, adding weeks or even months to your swim season.

Overview

How solar pool heating works

Your pool pump sends water through lightweight collectors on the roof. The sun warms the water as it flows through, and it returns to the pool several degrees warmer.

An automatic controller only sends water to the roof when there is heat to collect, so the system looks after itself day to day.

  • Collectors sized to your pool's surface area
  • Works with your existing pump and filter
  • Automatic sensor-based controller
  • No fuel or electricity bill for heating

Benefits

Why pool owners choose solar heating

Free heat every sunny day

Once installed, the sun does the work. There is no gas or heat-pump bill.

A longer swim season

Typically 8–12 °F warmer water, so you can swim comfortably in spring and autumn.

Low maintenance

Few moving parts and durable collectors that last for many years with simple care.

Already have solar?

Add pool heating to any home

Pool heating collectors can sit alongside solar panels on the same roof, or on a separate section of roof or a ground rack. We plan both together so they do not compete for space.

If your current pool-heating system is old or leaking, we can repair it or replace the collectors while reusing much of the plumbing.

  • Combined solar and pool-heating layouts
  • Repairs and collector replacements
  • Clear quote before any work starts

FAQ

Solar pool heating questions

Most pools gain 8–12 °F compared with an unheated pool. The exact result depends on collector area, shade and whether you use a pool cover.

Yes. The collectors go on the roof, not over the pool, so enclosures and screens are not a problem.

Usually not. We check your pump during the site visit and only recommend an upgrade if it cannot move water to the roof efficiently.
